Fire Blight diagnosis needed #150226

Asked August 30, 2013, 4:59 PM EDT

I bought a Sargent Tina miniture crab apple and planted it Spring 2012.  I too am a Master Gardener so I was sure to plant it properly.  I think it has fire blight but I am looking for a second opinion.  I have attached two pictures for your inspection.

If you do think it has fire blight can you tell me if it is OK to antiseptically prune right now?  Or should I wait until early spring before the sap flows?

Expert Response

I agree with your diagnosis of fireblight.  I think it is okay to prune now.  Be sure to sterilize your tools before, during after and dispose of the branches in the garbage, not use them for compost or whatever.
