How to get rid of Phyllostachys aurea (Golden Bamboo) #148827

Asked August 23, 2013, 12:35 PM EDT

Several years ago I purchased 80 acres located in the Sam Houston National Forest.  For reasons I yet to understand, the previous owner planted a large patch of bamboo in a low area. Naturally, I would like to remove this invasive species. I think it would make an ideal spot for a wildlife pond. What do you recommend for removal that will not be toxic to the soil there? Or is that even feasible?
