Caterpillar in oak tree #147592

Asked August 16, 2013, 8:49 PM EDT

We have a large number of these in our oak tree. What is it and how do we stop it?

Virginia Beach County Virginia

Expert Response

Just from the picture it looks like a Radcliffe's Dagger Moth or a Contracted Datana Moth but if you want a 100% identification you can bring the caterpillar in to the Virginia Beach Extenstion office on the 2nd floor of Building 14 on Princess Anne Road in the Virginia Beach Municipal Complex.  Their office number is 385-4769
