Please identify knob/bump/nodes for this plant and advise regarding die off. Photo included #140014

We think the plant in the attached photo is variegated periwinkle ground cover that a local resident brought in to find out what the knob/bump/nodes are and to see if they are causing the plant to die off in patches.

This appears to be a variegated Wintercreeper Euonymus. Euonymus is a broad leafed evergreen to semi-evergreen that can be climbing, trailing or a mounded shrub. It is susceptible to crown gall. Your sample displays this disease.
You can prune out the unsightly portions of the plant making sure that you sterilize your pruners between each cut. Eventually the entire plant will need to be removed.
