problems with branches/whole arborvidae trees #135849

Asked June 21, 2013, 1:20 PM EDT

I have maybe 60 arborvitae trees and 4 of them are having problems. I've had the trees professionally looked at and so far spider mites have been ruled out I guess. Browning starts at the tips of needles on individual branches. It does seem to spread to neighboring branches. I would like to find the cause and the cure before more trees become involved. Although your site indicates that I might send more than one picture at a time, I have not been able to select more than one.

Expert Response

Hello and thank you for asking about your trees. Did the professionals examine the roots and watering/drainage?
Plant diagnosis over the web is difficult, and when so many trees might be involved, I'd like to suggest you contact your county Master Gardener Volunteers. Their email will allow a few more photos and easier back & forth responses, also phone calls. Perhaps taking a branch to the office will help, but first talk with them.
