We were traveling on Hwy 99 through McCoy/Amity area. Can you tell us what crop is growing in that area where the fields are pure white like snow. Beautiful! But we can't imagine what's growing?

Polk County Oregon

Expert Response

Great question. The field you are seeing is most likely radish grown for seed. While there are small amounts of table radish being grown in the valley, most of the acreage is what is called "tillage" radish which is grown for seed that is later used as a cover crop.  This radish is very similar to a daikon radish, meaning it has a really long white tuber underground.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Nicole
