How much water for new pine trees? #133450
Asked June 11, 2013, 10:02 AM EDT
We recently planted some Pine trees. I am going to put in a drip system and need to figure out how much to water, both now and after the tree is established.
Austrian Pine- drip system now, number of gallons per watering per week, and how often a week? After established?
Concolor Pine (Fir?) - same questions as above
Pinon Pine - same questions. same questions as above
Especially now with the very hot whether.
I have heard to get a moisture meter. The ones I have found only go down about 2 inches. Will this help? Are there others that go deeper?
Thanks very much,
Bill Harvey

This also indicates a moisture meter might be used but might be unreliable. I suggest you follow the watering guidelines suggested in the attachment and you should be fine. You can also get additional watering suggestions from your local water and sanitation district.
