Kale, pest control advice #130445

Asked May 28, 2013, 10:34 PM EDT

There is something eating my Kale. It is chewing BIG holes in the leaves. I have looked closely and can not see any insects on or near the plants.  I would like to know what it might be and what organic methods I might do to stop it. Thank you.

Expert Response

There are several things that may chew holes in kale leaves.  Unfortunately we cannot recommend control pratices without knowing what's doing the chewing.
You indicated that you could not see any insects on or near the plants.  Perhaps the damage is occurring at night. I suggest looking at night.  Also, look for signs of the pest such as fecal pellets on the plants or ground, or slime trails from slugs on the leaves.
If you can find some evidence of the pest besides the holes, i will try to provide control recommendations.
