I live in north central Texas, DFW area. I have a headge of Red Tip Photina's that are slowly dying from black spot , I am tired of trying to save them so my question is what kind of shrub will grow fast, dense, last and reach a height of 5 ft., that is disease/pest resistant and non invasive. Thank you.

Expert Response
Dwarf Burford Holly would make a great hedge at about 5
feet. Regular Burford holly grows much taller. Start with large well branched
shrubs at the bottom. Then each spring, cut the tips of each side stem from the
bottom up to encourage more branches. For every tip you cut, 2 stems will grow.
These branches will help fill in the hedge side to side. Plant 4 to 5 feet
apart.
Other shrubs to think about:
Albelia This shrub grows wider so it would take more move.
The new branches cascade over. Flowers all summer.
Eleagnus – foliage is grey-green provide a different look.
