I had Roughstalk Bluegras... #129820

Asked May 26, 2013, 11:53 AM EDT

I had Roughstalk Bluegrass that I killed last year. I put down Scott's KBG seeds in the fall.  I have notice this grass appearing in areas that I put down the KBG. It kind of looks like perennial ryegrass or orchard grass.  (I pulled it out of the ground and it was cut 1 day earlier).  Can you tell me what type of grass it is? If it is a grass weed, what would be the best way to get rid of it.

Hi,
I got this question but I am not really a good turf person. If I were you, I would call the local Rutgers Master Gardener hotline<personal data hidden> and see if you could bring a sample in for identification. Often you need a hand lens to identify turf species. They are open M-F from 9 to 3. They can also give you information about control. I do know that it is not as easy to get rid of specific grass species in lawns than it is to control say, broadleaved weeds. Other New Jersey homeowners may be experiencing the same problems with this grass species so they would be the first place I would turn to.
