I have a huge strawberry patch and have had for the past 7-8years. I has been producing less and less strawberries over the years. I heard that you have to dig them all up and start over. Is this true? I really don't won't to lose all those plant and waste all that money. What do you suggest>

Expert Response

You don't necessarily need to dig them up, but you should remove the older plants and move the daughter plants to open spots.  In this publication from Oregon State  University, http://www.oregon-strawberries.org/attachments/Growing-strawberries.pdf, go to page 5.  You'll see a list of what you can do to renovate your bed.  Most of that work is in the fall.

You can also contact our Vegetable Specialist, Dr. Dan Drost, who will have some more information:  dan.drost@usu.edu.

Good luck!
