Hi.  I inherited this lovely plant from my mother who died a year ago.  In the last three years of her life she was in and out of the hospital.  Unfortunately this plant suffered too - I didn't always get there to water it, and sometimes probably left it to sit in water because I was just too rushed.  The plant has had this appearance for almost two years.  It has not bloomed in at least two years as far as I can recall.  Recently, I've noticed exceedingly small little insects on top of the soil.  I've only seen them because I had peered in there when I watered it to watch for any strange movement.  They're only a few of these and seem to want to hide back in the soil once disturbed. I have looked with a magnifying glass and cannot tell you what their body looks like, but it does appear that they have silver wings.  Again - there's only a very few.  So I don't know if the plants sickly appearance and these insects are related, but that's all I can tell you to diagnose the problem.  Also, I just pulled the plant out of it's pot and didn't notice anything unusual but I did not go exploring to see the roots.  I just popped it out and then put it right back in.  The soil did seem moist and rather unremarkable in appearance.  Can you please tell me what, if anything, I can do to save this plant which my mom loved so much?  Thanks very much.

I recently planted viola Corsica in a sunny end of my perennial garden in the spring. It now is looking rather withered and the blooms are not opening but rather shriveling and the plant is falling open. It gets plenty of water even though it can take less. It’s in good soil and sun. Can I over fertilize this plant or are there insects that may attack it, although I don’t see any? Just trying to nurse it back to how it looked when I planted it. It was gorgeous a month ago in the middle of my “snow in summer“ when it was blooming:)

my Red pine (Norway) is having a bark issue how can I treat? row of trees 12 this is on 1st 3

1st tree has lots of dead branches...I am worried they have a bug issue and could take down all 12 trees

appears what ever is happening is going on 1st three in the row. All trees are about 5 feet from Water(Turtle lake)

Please tell me the name of this disease on my butterfly bush and how to cure it. These are no signs of bugs, or mold on the fronts or backs of the leaves. The leaf slowly develops tiny brown dots, that appears to be from loss of something IN the leaf (chlorophyll?) rather than something on top of the leaf (like a bug). Please advise me as to how to solve this. I am losing the whole bush to this. Thank you very much for you assistance. I submitted this question and the reply was that it had already been aanswered in question 649558. it did not say HOW to get to question 649558 and I am unsuccessful in searching for it.  Again, please help.  Thank you very much.

We have a fairly large pin oak tree in our front yard of about 23 years of age.  We have noticed two branches on the tree that have a majority of the leaves stripped bare. Two symptoms we have notices are small green "beads" below one of the branches that extends over our side walk. The other symptom we have spotted are small caterpillars going across our driveway near the tree. The attached jpg photos are 106, stripped branch; 111, beads below branch with stripped leaves; and 122, caterpillars found near tree.

We would like to have advice on how to prevent further damage to this beautiful tree that graces our front yard.  Any suggestion on diagnosis or intervention would be greatly appreciated.

What can of insects or mites that is very very small dots and some look like small hair? I find them in my pubic hair and they bite my arm, legs, all over my body!! After bathing i have a little releive, a hour later they are back!! They double in the morning time before bath time!! When using the toilet i see hundreds of them with dead skin in the commode,when they bite they leave a patch of little small bumps.

What could be causing about 2 inch in diameter holes in the yard under a Bradford Pear tree & on a small bank?  There isn't a dirt mound, it's just a hole. The area is almost large enough that you could step on it & it cause you to lose your balance & fall.

 Is there anything I can do to stop it?

What is the name of the caterpillar/worm that eats parsley leaves and leaves only the stalk? They seem to appear almost overnight. I have had them eat my parsley plants that are in the ground or in pots on the deck. Frustrating. 

I found the name of the caterpillar - a zebra caterpillar - but they seem to appear almost overnight - where do they come from?  Are the larvae deposited on the leaves, which given the lacy structure of curly parsley, that seems like it would be difficult to do.  Then how do I protect my plants from these voracious creatures?

We may have a "nursery" of carpenter ants along an edge of sidewalk/lawn.  We see winged black adults and red orange multitudes of ants.  Do we need to eradicate them?  Are there environmentally responsible ways to 'uninvite' them?

My ash tree appears to be dead. On the trunk of the tree it looks like the tail end of a bug sticking out of it. When I pulled it out there is about an inch hole  into the tree. Is that sound like an emerald ash borer?

I have a sugar maple tree showing signs of illness. Leaves with holes. Leaves falling off in clumps. Leaves with medium size black spots. Leaves look wilted. Tree 30 years old + -.

I think I found my answer. Looking again today I found the last picture. I have more pictures of leaf damage and black spots. Do gypsy moth eat maples too?  Who will spray and pay for that if necessary?

I believe the weed might be Nimblewill patch and I plan to kill my entire lawn with Tenacity and Round Up.Waite two and reseed with 1/3 tall fescue 1/3 rye and 1/3 Kentucky Blue using a slicing seeder. If you are still un sure I can send more pictures. Any advice will be appreciated

Online info shows a map for this critter as European through Asia, NOTHING in the Americas. Three inches long, at least 3/8 inch in diameter medium green with white vertical stripe and a menacing looking purple spine near one end, regrettably poorly visible in the photo. Concerned that this could be a new import which mysteriously showed up in my 11 year old garden, I would appreciate your advice on what to do to, or, with it. It devoured a medium sized, recurrent  moon flower (angel trumpet) bush. It emits  waste which blackens when exposed to normal air. Currently constrained to a container with limited  breathing holes, waste presents as medium brown. Could you show me into what it would transform ?

Recently I got an answer to question 220832 about trouble with a walnut tree not producing good nuts. The answer was to spray with copper sulfate, which we did. My present question is after mixing the CS spray I added a little seven spray and a small portion of dormant spray. I sprayed the walnut, apple, peach and cherry trees. Everything was fine except the peach trees have lost most of their leaves.

Did I do wrong by mixing the chemicals together? Do you think the peach tress will still produce the fruit that is already on them?

We apparently have bats roosting in the corner of the entryway to our home. (The entry has brick siding up to the roof of the entry, open on one side with a brick column/pillar). The problem being they leave droppings all over the corner of the porch, which isn't healthy to keep sweeping away. I am looking for a way to resolve keeping the bats away.

I discovered a beetle under my rhododendron that I've never seen and wonder if it is harmful. It had transparent wings, a black hard shell body with a white horn or nose or protrusion on front of it's face. It was digging a hole in the dirt around the rhododendron. Can you help me, I have no idea where to look to identify it. Kathleen Hudson

This round beetle (?) (1/4 “ to 1/2”) is black but with the most beautiful Navaho-like design on its back. It seems to love my scarlet runner beans, bush beans, even Concord grapes. I cannot find a pic of it on the UM Extension website. When I squish it, it’s not hard or crunchy....but quite soft.
