What is eating the leaves of my rhubarb plant? My husband found some shiny black beetles in the soil. The rest of the plant looks healthy, the leaves are eaten with big holes. There also are some holes in the leaves of a geranium plant and my basil.

There are many insects that resemble a grasshopper but are brownish in color and they hang around shrubbery. If I brush against the shrubs, they fly up in the air. They do not seem to bite, and I repeat, they remind me of a grasshopper but are the wrong color.

zimmerman pine moth and emerald ash borers #199934

Hi, I have about 40 blue spruce and Austrian pines on my lot.  I have noticed what you describe as zimmerman pine moth on one of my Austrian pine and am worried about it and the other trees I have.  What can I spray to stop the advancement on this tree as it appears limbs are turning brown and dying.  I also worry about the spread to others.  I also have 8 or so ash trees that I have been applying baer brand solution to and have still lost three trees to what I assume is the emerald  ash beetle.  I could use some good advice as to a more aggressive approach to killing these bugs.  I love my trees and am losing some.  If you could recommend some treatments or someone that could help me with my problem, I sure would appreciate it.  Thank you, Steve Pendleton

Our pine tree has been sprayed regularly for the pine beetle. This Spring it started dripping sap over our driveway. It has been occurring for several months now. Is there something we can do to stop it?

Pine trees dying #192604

I've noticed a LOT of pine trees that have already died or are dying in Parker, CO (for example, along Main St, near the intersection of Canterberry Pkwy).  Many of these are along the road, but some are further from the road, in pastures, etc.  The symptoms appear to be that the needles at the tips first turn a rust orange and then it extends into the tree.  I own a pine tree and I'm concerned about it "catching" whatever the other pine trees appear to be struggling with.  Since there has been rampant pine beetle damage in the mountains, I'm concerned that they have made their way into Parker.

Ash Borer #190561

I have 2 Ash trees in my yard in the north part of Broomfield and have detected a couple of bores in the tree and would like to know how to treat them. I also have detected some leaves that are curling up and suspect a treatment of some sort is necessary. I have used a Spectracide Insect killer as a spray and also a Bayer product - Tree and Shrub product that seems to have worked as far as a leaf treatment but not sure of the bore in the trunk. Would like your advice and thank you very much.

Box Elder Beetle in fruit trees #181784

I had fire blight in our dwarf fruit trees (pears, cherry, apricot) last year, cut the branches radically out and burned them, cleaning the knife between cuts, and sprayed the with baker's yeast solution into the cuts, and along the stems and braches. This spring they came out beautifully, until this week when I see them infestated with the beetles, and first signs of the blight. Is there a correlation?

In my little home orchard I have about 8 cherry trees, sweet and Pie cherries. The last two years I have lost my entire crop in spite of spraying them with products recommended at the stores. I have very complete information from the internet, how and when to spray, etc., except what to spray with. What chemical spray? In the past I have used diazinon and malathion successfully for most fruit tree pests, but now I can't even find those. What do I use?

Fortex Beans #172782

My fortex beans were planted in a greenhouse on Feb 25. One row, 5' long. Half of the plants are showing signs of some type of stress. Pics attached. Leaves look blistered. Stunted growth. Peas growing 2 feet away are doing great. I've been very careful not to overwater. What is happening?
