Wondering what you would recommend for a systemic product to use to control Asian beetles on linden trees? I just purchased Bonide's annual tree and shrub insect control but while reading the directions it says not to use on linden trees.

Boxwood pruning; maple leaf issue; oak leaf issue #837555

Given the caterpillar that was identified in Washtenaw county, I have been told that I should refrain from pruning my boxwoods this summer. Is this true? My mature Autumn Flame and October Glory Sugar maple leaves have extensive black spot. The canopy is now fairly shaded although the top of the trees are in the sun.I have attached a photo. The spots are more black than brown, and started to appear in late spring. Pretty much all of the leaves are affected. Please identify! A volunteer oak has extensive damage to its leaves: brown spots surrounded by lighter green, covering the entire tree. I have many other oaks on the property that do not have similar damage. I have attached two photos. Is this something I have to be concerned about?

Birch tree issue #809642

I've planted a 10' balled Renaissance Oasis Birch tree purchased at Bachmann's 2 years ago and had it professionally planted. Planted it in June of 2021. It's leaves dropped a month later. This year the majority of the leaves have dropped again by July. I do have a sprinkling system and the grass around the tree remains green during the growing season. There have been times both years where rains have made the ground around this tree very wet. Would you have any thoughts on what may be occuring? Joe

For the last few years (5?) our lawn and our next door neighbors lawn has had large areas of dying grass. Our lawn got down to 50% actual living grass.We use the same lawn service, as do some other neighbors with decent lawns. (Most lawns in the neighborhood look much better than ours.) We and our next door neighbors have watered more than we would like to admit, but we haven't been able to prevent the damage again this year. I reseeded last year and the grass failed early on this season. I have again reseeded this year and our next door neighbors have had their yard professional reseeded this year. Our lawn service said we had grubs and have treated for grubs, but I have taken a number of soil samples and have never seen grubs. No other creatures have appeared to be eating grubs. We had another lawn care company come out and they said it could be invasive grass that is drought intolerant. They seemed to disbelieve that we watered enough.. Any thoughts? Should we get soil tested? Here's a picture.

Hello! My yard is not very green even with watering on odd days and applying fertilizer. I am assuming I may need lime. I know one of the first steps to answer this question is to find out what the PH of my soil is. Can you tell me what kind of sample I need to take and which office should I take it too for results? YOur photo in the bees and heat waves article shows a Doug aster after a summer with no supplemental irrigation. But just because a plant looks fine does that mean it can still supply nectar or pollen? Bumblebees and small native bees are foraging on my lavender and oregano even in today's heat. To keep them coming should I water the plants regularly?.

Diagnosis of Boxwood leaf discoloration #801240

Hi I have (28) green gem boxwoods (Buxus green gem) , planted in the spring of 2021 that have a leaf discoloration issue. Here is the background info: - planted in 9" diameter cloth grow bags, spring 2021 - soil planted in standard retail shrub soil with bark on top to retain moisture - plants are located on South side of a building deck (floor 5) with late morning to full afternoon sun - plants were trimmed for the 1st time in may of 2022 - plants developed yellowing of leaves summer of 2021 and summer 2022 - plants were fertilized with 13-3-13 fertilizer spring 2021/2022 - plants are watered as needed (checked one plant and found no root root, roots seem to be healthy) - soil was tested and found to have basically neutral pH - the picture of the 3 leaves: the yellow tipped leaf is the most predominant among the problematic leaves with a few leaves being the middle discolored leaf and only a few with the black tipped leaf - the picture of the terra cotta planting has not been trimmed at all and shows little sign of yellow tipping and is in greater shade than the rest of the boxwoods - plants are located in Seattle Any help with diagnosis is appreciated.
